Turning clocks back 'timely' reminder to check household alarms

When you turn your clocks back this weekend, Sarnia Fire Rescue Services would also like you to test and replace old smoke alarms.

Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus says the time change is a useful reminder to ensure the safety of your home.

"We like to use the saying, change the clock change your battery," said Bus. "And if you have a wired in smoke alarm, you can't replace it with just a battery operated one. That's considered downgrading. You need to replace it with a wired in alarm."

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 3.

The change means morning will be bright an hour earlier and darkness will set in earlier in the evening.

Friday also marks the start of CO Awareness Week.

Carbon Monoxide poising is the number one cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America.
