Sarnia woman 'Face of Hope' for breast cancer walk

Krista Pask has been named this year's "Face of Hope" for Sarnia's second annual Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer walk.

Canadian Cancer Society Sarnia-Lambton spokesperson Paula McKinlay said Pask was a youth cancer survivor, who is now in the battle of her life.

"Krista was actually our 'Face of Hope' for relay a few years after she was diagnosed initially as a teenager with a different type of cancer," said McKinlay. "She has remained a very important part of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Relay for Life community and then in the last couple of years, at 33, she was diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer."

McKinlay said her diagnosis has changed since then.

"It is starting to metastasize, so now it is a stage 4 that's spread to her lungs and the doctors have told her that it is now incurable. So the treatments that she is undergoing now are to make sure that she's comfortable and living the best life that she can."

She said despite the news, Pask continues to find and focus on positives each day and uses social media as a platform to help others.

"If you ever watch her blog or her Facebook posts, she is living an amazing life with what she's got left," said McKinlay.

Participants can register for a one-kilometre or five-kilometre walk, or five-kilometre or 10-kilometre run.

The event, starting from the Seaway Kiwanis Pavilion in Canatara Park on October 20, starts at noon.

Early registration is appreciated and can be done here.

$12,000 was raised last year and it's hoped $15,000 will be raised by the event this year.
