Parking concerns raised near Bluewater Health

Residents on Maria and Essex Streets in Sarnia are getting fed up with people parking in front of their homes to visit the hospital.

Councillor Brian White said he's fielded a number of complaints from residents between Russell and Mackenzie Streets -- where motorists scoop up free street parking spots to visit Bluewater Health.

"There's been a lot of infringement on the ability for people who live on those streets to move freely, use their own private driveway as they need to whether it be for moving vans or deliveries or even to park and move safely back out onto the street," said White.

Council has directed staff to study parking patterns and petition residents in the affected area for comments.

Staff have also report back on alternative on-street parking solutions, like banning it completely or adding painted markings, permit parking or metered parking.

Council has asked staff to report back by the end of this year.
