Sting burned by Firebirds in Flint

The Sarnia Sting are now 0-3 following an 8-5 loss to the Firebirds in OHL action on Sunday afternoon in Flint.

The Firebirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period on goals from Cody Morgan, Vladislav Kolyachonok, Ty Dellandrea and Brennan Othmann.

The Sting came out strong in the second period to cut the Firebirds' lead to 6-4. They outshot the Firebirds 23-5 in the second and 40-34 overall.

The teams exchanged third period goals, as the Firebirds went on to win 8-5. Ethan Keppen scored twice for Flint, Evan Vierling scored and added two assists.

Sean Josling led the way for the Sting with a goal and three assists, while Calvin Martin and Eric Hjorth each had a goal and two helpers.

It was Hjorth's first three points in the Ontario Hockey League. Brayden Guy and Jacob Perreault both added singles.

The Sting were without some key players including Jamieson Rees, Ryan McGregor, and Ashton Reesor.

The Sting have two games on tap this weekend. They'll host Barrie on Friday and welcome Guelph to town on Sunday afternoon.
