Multiple charges against man accused of pointing gun, firing shot

A 25-year-old Sarnia-area man faces a long list of charges following an incident involving a man with a gun in the city's downtown area on Friday morning.

Police said a man dressed all in black with a shirt wrapped around his face was seen by workers in the area as he walked along the train tracks on the west side of Imperial.

Cst. John Sottosanti said it appeared he was holding a gun wrapped up in a pouch against his body.

"Officers were dispatched to the area and as one of officers responded to the call he observed the suspect walking along the west side of Christina Street," said Sottosanti.

"As the officer approached the suspect in his cruiser the suspect pulled out and drew a rifle pointing it directly at the officer. The suspect then turned to run away from the officer who followed him while in his cruiser. As the suspect ran he pointed his fire at an individual who was cutting her grass causing her to run for cover."

Sottosanti said the suspect fired a shot at a vehicle that was stopped at the Christina Street and Confederation Street intersection.

When an officer caught up to the suspect and drew his service pistol, the suspect dropped his firearm and continued to run.

Police said the suspect barged into an apartment and threatened the homeowner before officers who had flooded into the area, found him without further incident.

A sawed off rifle was recovered which was loaded but apparently had jammed up.
