UPDATE: Gunshot fired downtown, suspect arrested

Sarnia police arrested a man and seized a sawed off rifle after a gunshot was fired in the city's downtown area Friday morning.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious man at around 9 a.m. in the area of Christina Street and Confederation Street.

Cst. John Sottosanti said he was dressed in camouflage and appeared to have a firearm. It's alleged the man fired a shot and ran from police.

"Officers immediately secured the area, and located the suspect without further incident," said Sottosanti. "The investigation is very preliminary at this time, and as further information arises it will be released."

There were no injuries in the incident.

A yet unnamed 25-year-old Sarnia area man was in custody awaiting a bail hearing on several charges.
