Increased activity at NOVA Corunna as construction ramps up

The public is being warned about increased traffic and possible delays as construction ramps up at NOVA Chemicals Corunna.

Communications Consultant Meaghan Lawrence said construction worker vehicle traffic will begin accessing the site Wednesday from the main entrance on Rokeby Line in St. Clair Township.

She said the community can expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays in the area, specifically between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

"We understand that this may cause inconveniences to our neighbours and community," said Lawrence in a news release. "We continue to work with our contractors, subcontractors, and multiple local agencies to reduce the impact of our construction activities and to maintain safety as our highest priority."

Information updates will be provided through the Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) Industry Update line at 1-855-4SARNIA or 1-855-472-7642.

Construction is underway on a new polyethylene facility and expanded Corunna site cracker at a cost of $2.2 billion.

Lawrence said there are currently 600 tradespeople on-site, the majority from the local area.

Start-up of the expanded facilities is targeted for late 2021.
