Province supports SLEP Digital Service Squad

Local businesses are being given a helping hand to create or improve their websites through Ontario's Digital Main Street program.

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) is establishing a local Digital Service Squad thanks to a $40,000 investment from the province.

SLEP Development Coordinator Chantelle Core said the squad will focus on retail and service-based businesses on the county's main roads, including downtown Sarnia.

"The idea is to help them expand their economic footprint by operating in a more digital-friendly environment," said Core. "So, if we can get more businesses doing e-commerce, and improving their social media profiles, at the end of the day those businesses will be better able to compete in the global economy."

The squad will also work to boost Google profiles and will use a 360 camera to shoot interior videos.

They can also help businesses apply for the Ontario government's $2,500 Digital Transformation Grant.

There are 2,000 of them available to help businesses adopt new digital technologies.
