Gas prices drop in advance of home heating season

The Ontario Energy Board has approved a rate decrease for Enbridge Gas customers.

Utility spokesperson Leanne McNaughton said prices for residential customers are dropping by eight per cent, or $66 a year.

She said commercial customers will see prices go down by 11 per cent, for a yearly savings of $2,179.

"We look at our rates every three months," said McNaughton. "So these customer rates come into effect on October 1, through December 31 of 2019."

McNaughton said the change reflects the drop in market prices for natural gas supplies and transport.

Enbridge Gas merged with Union Gas this year to become one of the largest natural gas utilities in North America.
