Annual Terry Fox Run at Canatara Sunday

Hundreds of people are expected to pack Canatara Park on Sunday for the 39th annual Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research.

Organizers are hoping to raise twice as much as they did last year. In 2018 the local event generated $37,711, while $85,696 was raised across Sarnia-Lambton.

Spokesperson Laurie Rome said most people have been touched by cancer.

"There probably aren't too many people that you can talk to who don't know somebody in their life who has either lost a battle with cancer or is fighting it," said Rome. "So, everybody has a stake in it, we have to keep going."

Rome said Fox was instrumental in changing people's perspectives on cancer. He brought it out in the open and gave people fighting the disease some hope.

She said participants don't have to run, many either walk, use rollerblades or ride scooters.

Registration gets underway at 8 a.m. at the Canatara Park Bandshell, and the run starts at 9 a.m.

Large teams are encouraged to participate.
