UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended

Environment Canada has ended a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton.

The weather agency issued the alert Friday afternoon ahead of a thunderstorm that had the potential to become severe with wind gusts of 100 kilometres per hour and heavy rainfall.

Friday's severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton follows Wednesday's severe weather that brought flooding rain, strong wind gusts and produced a tornado in the Petrolia area.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
