Environment ministry says foul odour came from Procor

Ontario's environment ministry has tracked the source of a foul odour in southeast Sarnia a week ago to Procor rail services.

Ministry spokesman Gary Wheeler said they received a total of five complaints late Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

He said the ministry contacted Procor and determined the company, on Procor Drive off of Confederation Line, had an odour issue while cleaning a rail car between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. September 4.

Wheeler said the ministry will continue to gather additional details about the incident from Procor to make sure the issue is properly addressed.

Many residents, generally in the city's southeast quadrant, took to social media to complain about a strong, sickening odour in the area.

The investigation continues. Anyone wishing to make a statement should call Burk Morgan at 519-630-7996.
