Subdivision developments ready to go

Ground could be broken soon on new subdivisions in Sarnia if final approval is granted by city council Monday.

Mayor Mike Bradley says it's a positive step forward to more diverse housing, not just single family homes.

"It's a good testament to the local economy in the last number of years," said Bradley. "The fact that we're seeing this type of very significant residential development, not just with these projects but others that have been approved in the last few months, is key to having a diversified housing market, hopefully keeping housing prices down as the market has more product. Which has been an issue with realtors in the last year or so."

There are 54 semi-detached residential lots planned on the west side of Upper Canada Drive.

And on the west side of Modeland Road, north of Michigan Avenue, 72 single-detached residential lots, 39 townhouse units and a commercial block are planned.

London-based Sifton Properties plans for that area were the subject of two Ontario Municipal Board hearings.
