Tall ships celebration a huge success (GALLERY)

The Tall Ships Celebration is being hailed as a tremendous success.

The Bluenose II, Empire Sandy, Picton Castle, Appledore IV, Fair Jeanne and the Christopher Columbus replica Santa Maria were moored at the Sarnia Harbour along with a Canadian Coast Guard ship.

Sarnia's Director of Parks and Recreation Rob Harwood said people waited up to 90 minutes to board and see the magnificent vessels up close.

Harwood said Sarnia residents flocked to the waterfront.

"Actually, it would probably be easy to say there were 20,000 plus that came down, there was a lot of great interest," he said. "They are just marvellous vessels, and I think everybody enjoyed it a lot."

Harwood said they received great reviews from all of the tall ships. He said they loved their time here and were impressed with the layout, security and the community response.

The Tall Ships Celebration coincided with Bluewater Borderfest and ARTZscape at Centennial Park, making the Sarnia waterfront the place to be.
