Bilton announces resignation in Dawn-Euphemia

A 37-year veteran of local politics has resigned due to health concerns.

Dawn-Euphemia councillor and former longtime mayor Bill Bilton has been on sick leave for the past few months.

Bilton became the municipality's first mayor after being elected in 1998 following the amalgamation of Dawn and Euphemia townships. He was first elected as a councillor in Euphemia in 1982 and also held the reeve and deputy reeve positions. Bilton was Lambton County's warden in 1992.

Dawn-Euphemia council will discuss how to fill the vacant seat when it meets August 6.

Council could appoint the runner-up candidate from last fall's municipal election, call for nominations, appoint someone, or hold a by-election.
