Traffic stop leads to high-speed chase

Two people face numerous charges following a high-speed chase through city streets.

Sarnia police attempted to stop a vehicle travelling east on Confederation Street near Indian road around 11 a.m. on Monday, but the driver accelerated and fled the scene.

Police said the vehicle weaved between eastbound vehicles on Confederation Street before losing control, turning north onto Finch Drive and striking a curb at the northeast corner of the intersection, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

The driver then continued driving north of Finch before stopping at the south entrance of Treewood Crescent.

The female driver was immediately placed under arrest.

Following an investigation, a male passenger was found to be breaching a recognizance of bail by communicating with and being in the company of the female driver. During a search of the passenger, officers located about seven grams of cocaine.

A 28-year-old man from Sarnia is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and breach of recognizance.

A 29-year-old woman from Corunna is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, and driving while under suspension.
