Michigan man presumed drowned in St. Clair River

Divers resumed the search Monday afternoon for a man missing and presumed drowned in the St. Clair River at St. Clair Michigan.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said a 21-year-old East China Township man jumped into the river from a boat behind the St. Clair Inn. Two friends who were with Riley Gleason said he immediately began calling for help. One threw a rope and a flotation device and, after that didn't work, jumped into the water and temporarily had a hold of Gleason before he slipped from his grasp and went under the water.

The Sheriff's Office Marine Division and Dive Team, and the St. Clair Fire Department responded just before 9 p.m. Friday.

An extensive search with sonar equipment that also involved a U.S. Coast Guard boat and helicopter continued through the weekend, and dive teams from Sanilac, Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties were joining the search Monday.
