Former Y worker charged with assault makes court appearance

A Sarnia woman charged with assaulting a child at the Jerry McCaw Family Centre YMCA made a brief appearance in Sarnia court Tuesday morning.

Lisa Teft, an Early Childhood Educator at the Y at the time of the alleged offence, had her case adjourned to July 30 to review disclosure.

She was arrested June 10 and charged with assault with a weapon on a two-and-a-half-year-old child.

Police say the child sustained a minor injury which didn’t require medical attention.

Police began a joint investigation with the Sarnia-Lambton Children's Aid Society May 30 after the CAS was notified of an allegation by YMCA staff.

In a letter sent to parents, the Y confirmed that an individual had been charged by police and was no longer an employee with the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
