Angled parking coming to Sarnia's downtown

Sarnia council has decided to give back-in angle parking a try downtown.

The angled parking will be implemented on the west side of Front Street between George Street and Cromwell Street to create an additional 15 to 20 parking spots.

Councillor Brian White supported the direction.

"I think the back-in angled parking, which is different than front-in angled parking -- where you would actually back out into traffic -- feels very safe to me, it seems reasonable, it adds some on-street parking," said White.

White said he also likes future plans to enhance enforcement through new technology and additional staff.

Councillor Nathan Colquhoun also supported the motion, saying it was a step in the right direction.

"I would still like to see parking meters added," said Colquhoun.

A proposal for a dedicated downtown parking enforcement officer and enhanced enforcement equipment will be considered during 2020 budget discussions.
