Sarnia hires new head of legal services

The City of Sarnia has a new director of legal and property services.

Sutheat Tim will take over the role from Scott McEachran who left the city at the end of 2018.

The position provides a broad range of legal services to the community, including matters related to municipal law, corporate risk management, and maintenance of city-owned properties.

Tim comes to the city from Thunder Bay where he was deputy city solicitor. He also served as legal counsel for the government of Nunavut, and public trustee for Nunavut.

Since 2003, he has had roles in private practice and government agencies.

Tim holds a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a Master of Business Administration from the University du Quebec a Montreal.

Sarnia Chief Administrative Officer Chris Carter said Tim will be a great benefit to the city.

"Sutheat has a strong technical background and experience in various sectors both private and public which will prove valuable to the City of Sarnia," said Carter. "He has also worked collaboratively with the indigenous communities in northern Quebec and Nunavut to develop culturally sensitive solutions to prevalent problems. We look forward to Sutheat joining the City and bringing these skills to our Team and community."

His first day on the job will be August 12, 2019.
