Elks provides special needs swing in Point Edward park

A special needs student was one of the first to take a ride on a new swing at a Point Edward park.

Sarnia Elks Lodge 503, a small community group of 15 members, unveiled the new Jenn Swing at Elks Park Tuesday afternoon.

Secretary Treasurer Donna Clendenning said the donation makes the small park on Michigan Avenue more inviting to those with mobility challenges.

"As you can see the little boy over there, Nolan, he's laughing and giggling, this swing is going to help him enjoy something that we take for granted," said Clendenning. "Many children are limited in what they can do and this is going to help them get out and enjoy the outdoors a little more."

Clendenning said they felt that Elks Park is the perfect place for the new swing given its proximity to Bridgeview Public School.

"They have a medically fragile class over there and there's about five or six children in that class. It's a nice surprise to see so many come over from the school to see this dedication," said Clendenning.

Clendenning said they raised $700 to pay for the swing through their annual September golf tournament in St. Clair Township.

Along with the swing, Lodge 503 donated playground equipment and helped with the sign at Elks Park.
