Rees heads Sting prospects at NHL draft

Jamieson Rees is among a handful of Sarnia Sting players that could have their names called during this weekend's National Hockey League draft in Vancouver.

Rees is projected to go in either the first or second round.

NHL Central Scouting has him ranked 30th among North American skaters, but TSN's Craig Button projects he'll go 27th overall to Tampa Bay.

His draft stock increased after putting up eight points in seven games for Canada at the World U-18 Championship.

Despite dealing with injuries during his two seasons in the OHL, Rees has 15 goals and 52 points in 83 regular season games.

Other draft eligible players include Brayden Guy, Ashton Reesor, Ethan Langevin, Anthony Tabak, Alex Hogue, Justin McCombs and Nolan DeGurse.

Former Sting forward Hugo Leufvenius is expected to re-enter the draft after going unpicked last year.

Sting captain Ryan McGregor could also put his name back in the mix after failing to sign a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The first round starts on Friday at 8 p.m. eastern time. Rounds two through seven will be on Saturday.
