Flood warning issued due to heavy rain

Heavy rain in the area has prompted the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority to issue a flood warning for the Sydenham River watershed.

Over 20 millimetres of rain fell overnight, and another 5-10 millimetres is forecast for Thursday.

Director of Water Resources Girish Sankar said that's led to fast flowing water and slippery stream banks.

"This is particular to the lower reaches of the Sydenham River, Wallaceburg and Dresden in particular," said Sankar. "We're expecting minor flooding in the community, and conditions require that a few road closures are anticipated."

Sankar said the warning will likely be in place until Sunday, with 20 to 25 millimetres of rain forecast for the rest of the week.

There were no roads closed as of early Thursday morning.

Impacted roads could include Waterworks Road from Courtright Line to Moore Line, Stanley Line east of Kimball Road, and Pretty Road north of McCallum Line.
