Lambton College renewal and expansion continues

Three new facilities have already opened at Lambton College but renewal and expansion of the campus isn't done yet.

An application for a $7.3 million building permit is under review at Sarnia City Hall for interior renovation and a two-storey addition to the college's south building at the bridge entrance.

Director of Facilities Management Brent Thomas said the project, which would see the replacement of the outdated ramp on the north and south side of the bridge, still requires ministry approval.

"The campus project includes pulling out the west bridge entrance, creating a proper-sized open two-storey reception area that we're currently lacking," said Thomas. "We're including a new classroom above the campus shop as well as the renovation of aged washrooms and creating new barrier-free washrooms."

In the meantime, Thomas said work continues on the reconfiguration of the parking lot.

"Now that the college monitors parking through licence plate recognition systems, the two kiosks are no longer required. We're also eliminating the one-way traffic pattern that exists on the west side of the campus. This means the northbound road closest to the college and the arena is being removed and the west road that accepted only southbound traffic is being widened to accommodate two-way traffic," he said.

The $5.5 million parking project is expected to be complete in August in time for the new school year and the Ontario Hockey League season.

Thomas says graduates and patrons at Saturday's annual convocation ceremony will be able to park in lots 8 and 10 through 13. Staff will be on site directing traffic as well.
