Sarnia Imperials open season on Saturday night

The Sarnia Imperials kick off their 2017 Northern Football Conference season Saturday under the bright lights of Norm Perry Park.

The Imperials host the Sault Steelers before hitting the road for a pair of games against the GTA All Stars and Tri-City.

Head Coach Jake Cherski is excited to get things started.

"For the first time ever, I probably have a bit of a nervous feeling this year because we've had a lot of changes in the off season with a lot of our core guys deciding to move on and step away," said Cherski. "We've brought in some pretty good talent, I'm not scared with that we have. I'm mostly nervous because of the unknown."

Cherski says the Steelers will be a challenging opponent.

"They always bring a big, tough, physical team and it's something that we embrace when we play the Sault because we know we're in a football game."

Saturday's game starts at 7 p.m.

Last season, the Imperials made it all the way to the league finals and lost 44-7 to the GTA.
