Collision Reporting Centre opening in Sarnia

In less than one month, minor collisions in Sarnia will be reported a little differently.

Starting June 11, motorists involved in minor crashes can report the incidents themselves at the Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) at Sarnia Police Headquarters on Christina Street.

Sarnia police Inspector Jeff Hodgson said there are some exceptions.

"One is, obviously, where there's injuries, another one is where there's any sort of criminal activity such as impaired driving or dangerous driving," said Hodgson. "Any motor vehicle transporting dangerous goods, obviously we can't have that leaving the scene. Any government vehicles, Sarnia police, City of Sarnia vehicles and any damage to private or public property such as a hydro pole."

Hodgson said the new centre will assist in minimizing officers being tied up on minor incidents when they're required for high priority calls.

The centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
