Warrant issued for suspect in armed robberies

Police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another after armed robberies at convenience stores in Petrolia and Sarnia.

The first convenience store on Petrolia Line in Petrolia was robbed on May 14 and the second on Wellington Street in the City of Sarnia was held up two days later.

The Ontario Provincial Police along with the Sarnia Police Service arrested one suspect on May 18.  John Dobbie, 46, of Sarnia has been charged with two counts of robbery with a weapon, two counts of using a disguise with intent and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 24.

Police have also identified a second suspect who remains outstanding. An arrest warrant has been issued for 40-year-old Andrew Stirling of Sarnia for two counts of robbery with a weapon.

He is described as a white male, around 5'7" tall, about 135 pounds, with a thin build, blue eyes and greying hair.

Residents are urged to avoid contact with this man as he may be armed and is considered a risk to public safety. Anyone with information regarding Stirling's whereabouts should immediately contact 911. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
