New shade trees planted at London Road School (GALLERY)

Grade 3 and 4 students at London Road Public School helped plant seven trees in their schoolyard Thursday morning.

The shade trees were purchased through the Tomorrow's Greener Schools Today program and funded by TD bank's Friends of the Environment Foundation.

Lambton Public Health Nurse Catherine Gallaway said $5,350 was donated by the local branch this year.

"This is the third year for the program, so TD has contributed over $15,000 to the program," said Gallaway.

Six schools in Lambton County were selected for trees this year.

"We're planting approximately 60 trees this year," she said. "In total by the end of this year's program, we will have planted more than 160 trees with 17 local schools."

Before the tree planting, students were educated on the benefits of trees by St. Clair Region Conservation Authority staff.
