Fans show support for Camlachie rockstar fighting cancer

A Camlachie rockstar fighting terminal cancer needs your help.

Brian Doherty, the guitarist for Big Wreck, has been fighting the illness for the past nine months.

After word of his cancer broke in late April, one of his biggest fans launched a GoFundMe page to help.

James Bukowiec from Hawthrone, New Jersey kicked off the campaign to raise $10,000 for Doherty and his family April 28.

"Some of the money will go toward his care in these last days, but most will go to his Mom as per Brian's wishes," said Bukowiec. "During the fight, he did not want to burden anyone, but when it was known that the cancer was terminal, he finally agreed. The outpouring of love and prayers has been amazing."

On the page, Bukowiec said Doherty has touched many people's lives deeply, and this GoFundMe is a way to give back to the musician.

Doherty is originally from Long Island, New York, but relocated to Camlachie with his wife in 2002.
