Lambton College to defend world Enactus championship

Lambton College has won the Enactus Canada Championship for the second straight year and will defend its world championship.

Enactus Lambton's 'One Seed' project in Zambia beat out over 60 colleges and universities for the national title in Vancouver Thursday.

Faculty advisor John Milos said their team of 29 students wowed the judges and competition for its work transforming rural villages in the African nation.

"When we started the project in 2012, we had two farmers on the project," said Milos. "Now we have, just this year, 35,000 farmers and over 80,000 cumulative since we started. So there's been just tremendous growth."

The project has also expanded to include the installation of solar drip irrigation systems in schools in Zambia, helping feed 750 children and provide access to clean water.

In September, Enactus Lambton will return to the World Exposition in San Jose, California to defend its title.

Last year Lambton became the first Canadian college to win the Enactus World Cup.

"We're going back as two-time national champions and defending world champions so the judges will know us, they will know the project," said Milos. "I think they'll be very happy when they see how much the project has grown from last year. We're excited to be going, excited to be representing the college, Sarnia-Lambton and Canada, and we think we have a really good chance to defend our title."

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student leaders to create a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business.
