Sheet metal workers on strike

Sheet metal workers across the province are on strike. Unionized members working in the construction industry's industrial, commercial and institutional sector withdrew their services as of Monday. The Sheet Metal Workers' International Association (SMWIA) says the strike is supported by 98 per cent of its membership and affects about 4,000 workers province-wide. The union claims employers want members to work more hours for less pay, and says it will return to the bargaining table right away if the demands for concessions are dropped. Workers in Sarnia, Chatham, and Windsor are represented by Local 235.
