Canada's oldest music festival returns to Lambton County

The Lambton County Music Festival is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

The two-week long event, which kicked off Monday, has the distinction of being the longest-running music festival in Canada.

Organizer Judy Inch said there are over 400 entries this year, and more than 1,200 students taking part.

"We're dedicated to fostering music excellence," said Inch. "We have very generous sponsors and donors which provide scholarship money for the students to help them further their musical education."

During the first week, piano concerts are being held at the Sarnia Library Theatre and St. Giles Presbyterian Church.

Dunlop United Church is hosting voice performances.

During the second week, strings and instrumental will be at St. Giles, choral at Grace United Church, and band at St. Patrick's High School.

Admission to the non-profit festival is by donation. Award winners will be honoured at the Stars of the Festival Celebration Evening on May 14 at Grace United.
