Sarnia police have arrested four people and are looking for more suspects after hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage was done to Sarnia Bay Marina.
Staff from the Seaway Road marina and Sarnia's parks and recreation department contacted police Friday to report the theft of copper wire.
Cst. John Sottosanti said numerous planks were removed and large numbers of conduits containing copper wire were cut from under the docks.
An officer set up surveillance in the area in case the individuals returned, and just before 2 a.m. a vehicle was seen and four individuals approached on foot allegedly with tools used to cut and retrieve the copper wiring. The officer called for backup and the individuals were surrounded and taken into custody without incident.
Richard Gerald Young, 31, of Sarnia, Josie Amanda Laperriere, 29, of Sarnia, Kenneth Clark, 51, of Sarnia, and Donald Kevin Chambers, 36, of Sarnia are all charged with break and enter, possession of break-in instruments and mischief over $5,000.
Cst. Sottosanti said Young faces an additional charge of failing to comply with probation, Laperriere has two additional charges for failing to comply with an undertaking, and Clark and Chambers face additional charges for possession of a controlled substance.
While all four were in custody over the Easter weekend, police said other individuals broke into the marina and continued stripping copper wiring from the docks.
