Significant Easter weekend rain

A series of low pressure systems from the Southern Plains states are expected to bring significant rain to southern Ontario over the Easter weekend. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday afternoon saying 25 millimetres to 50 millimetres, up to two inches of rain, is likely Good Friday and Saturday. The weather agency says some ponding of water is possible in low-lying areas. The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has issued a flood message saying the rain, combined with very wet ground conditions, could result in quickly rising streamflows, and flooding. While major flooding is not anticipated, the authority reminds residents that cold water, combined with slippery and unstable steam banks, has created hazardous conditions near all waterways.
