Search widens for land for Forest area super school

The search continues for a site in Lambton Shores for a new kindergarten to Grade 12 school.

Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent of Business Brian McKay said there are no viable options for land around The Shores Recreation Centre in Forest.

He said that's where community members indicated they wanted it built during the pupil accommodation review.

"I've updated the North Lambton transition committee and informed them that we were looking outside of the area around The Shores, as we have run into some difficulty procuring around the arena," said McKay. "We're ready to go on the school, ready to start the design, we just need to find the site that works under the ministry's process."

McKay said while they're always interested in hearing from landowners in the area, the process remains very "formal" to satisfy ministry requirements.

The provincial government announced in January 2018 it was providing $27.4 million for a new consolidated school for students from Aberarder Central, Bosanquet Central, Kinnwood Central and North Lambton Secondary.

The new school would accommodate 1,024 students and an additional 24 child care spaces.
