Plans for Highway 40 signs honouring veterans gain momentum

Ontario's transportation minister supports an effort to honour Canada's veterans in Sarnia-Lambton with signs along the Highway 40 corridor.

MPP Bob Bailey wants to see Veteran's Parkway signs installed along a portion of the highway between the Highway 402 overpass and Plank Road.

He said Jeff Yurek is on board.

Bailey has been working closely with a local committee which includes city employee Chuck Toth, and authors Tom Slater, and Tom St. Amand.

He said they hope to have the signs in place by Remembrance Day this year, adding it would be a great way to acknowledge the 100th anniversary of the First World War armistice that was observed in 2018.

"It's something that we continually need to do, every day and in every way continue to honour the men and women that have served and their families as well," said Bailey. "It will be a great tribute and a visible reminder for people."

With the approval of Lambton County and Sarnia councils, the idea will be forwarded to the Ministry of Transportation for the final green light.

Further details, including costs and timelines, are yet to be determined.
