Woman charged with trafficking fentanyl

The Sarnia Police Vice Unit continues to take drugs off of the city's streets.

As part of an ongoing investigation, police arrested a woman near Trudeau Drive and Finch Drive for possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl. It happened around 2:50 p.m. on Friday, March 29.

A search of the suspect's purse allegedly turned up a number of cut up 100 microgram fentanyl patches and crystal methamphetamine.

While the suspect was being transported back to the station, she allegedly slipped out of her handcuffs and began trying to remove items from her bra and conceal them down her pants. The officers immediately stopped the cruiser and placed her back into her handcuffs.

Police allegedly found purple powder fentanyl and a number of 100 microgram fentanyl patches when they searched the suspect at the station.

In total officers located 15 100 microgram fentanyl patches, valued at approximately $12,000, 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, valued at $150, 0.9 grams of purple powder fentanyl, valued at $450, and $2,975 in cash.

Crystal Dawn Haywood, 34, faces one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid) and one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

She was held in custody to await a bail hearing.
