Controlled Phragmites burn conducted near LGS (GALLERY)

Clouds of smoke could be seen billowing into the air Wednesday afternoon near the former Lambton Generating Station at Courtright.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is conducting prescribed burns of Phragmites over several days in late March into April.

OPG contracted Golder Construction to organize a burn of the invasive plant that causes damage to biodiversity, and interferes with the natural runoff of rainwater.

The prescribed burns will be conducted when weather is ideal.
