Winter finally gives way to spring

Environment Canada says we can expect very seasonal temperatures for the start of spring 2019.

Winter officially ends and the new season begins at 5:58 p.m. eastern time Wednesday, March 20.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said the short term forecast for Sarnia-Lambton looks pretty good with temperatures normal to slightly above normal.

"We are talking about temperatures hovering around four to six degrees during the day, and getting down to minus three Celsius during the overnight hours," said Cheng. "It looks to be like that for at least the next couple of weeks."

The forecast for the first weekend of spring in Sarnia calls for sunny skies with a high around 5 C (41 F) Saturday and 9 C (48 F) Sunday.

Cheng said temperatures in the longer range forecast are also expected to be normal to slightly above normal, but he cautions that is averaged over three months.

"So in between, you might have stretches that are going to be above normal, and then stretches that are going to be below normal," he said.

Cheng said precipitation is also expected to be near normal, on average, through the spring season.
