Mayor lobbying for receptionist's return at city hall

Sarnia's mayor wants the kiosk reception desk reestablished at city hall within the next 30 days.

Mike Bradley said the lobby welcoming area was eliminated by the prior city council in December 2017, at minimal cost savings.

He said the public response to the change was overwhelmingly negative and he wants council to reconsider the move at its meeting on Monday.

Mayor Bradley said the goal is to make city hall as friendly and welcoming as possible.

"I point to examples like the research park, Lambton College, and Lambton County that have all kept their receptionist who meets people, directs them, assists with phone calls and makes the experience of going to those places much less stressful," he said.

Bradley said the reception area could easily be reestablished with the rejigging of staff hours to fill the void.

He also expressed concern about the closure of city hall between Christmas and New Year's.

That decision will likely be revisited at a later date.
