Fair designed to help seniors 'age-in-place'

A housing fair to help seniors with accessible and affordable housing is set for Wednesday near Lambton Mall.

Age Friendly Sarnia is hosting the free event at Living Hope Church on Exmouth Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Coordinator Amy Weiler said the fair is recommended for seniors, support workers, and anyone interested in aging-in-place.

"So we want to make seniors aware of how to make a home accessible-- what grant options are available, what services are available, who can put in the materials to make a home accessible. And also affordable housing options like home sharing."

Weiler said you can drop in at any time for information from housing experts.

"We will have presentations, exhibitors and workshops happening all day with a focus on supports, transitions and innovations in housing for seniors," said Weiler. "They include medical alert services, occupational therapists, and other resources around the community."

Weiler said the Age Friendly housing committee created the fair to increase communication and knowledge around housing options and supports for seniors.
