Fazio, Roache standouts in university hockey

Former Sarnia Sting goaltender Justin Fazio and the Queen's Gaels will try to win the university's first OUA hockey championship in 38 years this Saturday.

Fazio made 50 saves as Queen's beat Carleton in a two-game series to win the Eastern Conference championship.

In his first season with Queen's, Fazio posted a 13-4-0 record with a 2.50 GAA and .936 save percentage. He was also named an East Division second-team all-star and made the all-rookie squad.

The Sarnia native and former Sting Jaden Lindo take on the Guelph Gryphons in a one-game showdown Saturday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

Lindo had four points in 12 regular season games, and six points in seven postseason matches.

Both Queen's and Guelph have already qualified for the uSports national finals in Lethbridge, AB.

Meanwhile, Kassie Roache of Corunna will be playing in the OUA Mackay Cup Final this Saturday in Guelph for the championship in women's university hockey.

Roache led the University of Toronto to a 3-0 win with a hat-trick in the semifinals against Western last week.

She is a graduate of the Sarnia Lady Sting and is in her fifth year.

Win or lose, the University of Toronto will be in the National Championship in PEI March 15-17.
