Final phase of shopping centre redevelopment could include housing

As site plans for the London Road Shopping Centre continue to evolve, there's now talk of residential units being added.

Vensuris Capital Asset Manager Darren Dawson said construction of a new building at the centre of the plaza is expected to wrap up by the beginning of May.

He said the Goodwill Career Centre is relocating to the new facility and the old Goodwill building will be torn down.

"The way our site plan is going to work now, especially with the demolition of the Goodwill Career Centre, where it is right now, will allow for more traffic flow in and out of Afton Drive," said Dawson. "So it will be a little more accessible through the back there and overall work better for our site plan, which is also going to lead into our third and final stage, which is going to focus primarily on the back corner. Right now we're looking at potential new commercial there as well, or the concept of multi-residential."

Dawson said demolition and asphalt work for improved access to Afton Drive is expected to be complete by the end of spring.

Shortly after that, the third and final development phase in the area of the former Jack Doyle's Irish Grille and Sports Bar will begin.

It will provide additional commercial space or possibly multi-residential units.

Plans for a $15 million, five-year redevelopment of the London Road Shopping Centre were unveiled in the fall of 2016.
