Legionnaires fall to Maroons in high scoring game

Nolan DeGurse scored twice and added an assist, but the Sarnia Legionnaires lost 7-5 to Chatham in GOJHL hockey action Thursday.

The Legionnaires trailed the game 2-1 after the first period, and 5-3 after two. Chatham scored a pair of quick goals early in the third to open up a 7-3 lead but the Legionnaires scored two of their own near the end of the contest.

Logan Gardner, Joseph Ferrera, and Isaac McLean had Sarnia's other goals. Ben Schoch and Alec DeKoning both had a pair of assists.

The Legionnaires were outshot 54-38 and both teams went scoreless on five powerplay chances.

With five games remaining in the regular season, the Legionnaires sit fourth in the Western Conference with 49 points. They're eight behind Chatham, and three up on LaSalle.

Sarnia's next game is Saturday night at home to the first place Leamington Flyers.
