Sarnia's mayor and city councillors have received pay hikes as compensation for a lost tax exemption.
Effective January 1, Mike Bradley's base salary increased by about $10,000 to nearly $73,000 a year. With car allowance and benefits, his total compensation is just over $80,000 now.
Councillors get a $2,500 boost in wages to just over $23,000 a year.
The wage increases are in response to the federal government's decision to end the one-third exempt rule for municipal politicians.
Wage increases were approved for Lambton County councillors last October.
