Carpenters, Imperial flagship sponsors for Tall Ships

The tall ships, set to cruise into Sarnia this summer, have received some added wind in their sails.

On Tuesday, Tourism Sarnia-Lambton announced two major sponsors for the Tall Ships festival this August.

Special Events Coordinator Vicky Praill announced Carpenters Local 1256, and Imperial Oil Sarnia, have signed on as the title and presenting sponsors.

"Having these partnerships is crucial to our event. Anytime that we get new sponsors, obviously it just makes our event that much better."

Praill said they've already announced a number of ships that will be on display come August, and she said more announcements are on the way.

"So we've secured five ships-- we have a couple of other contracts where we haven't announced the ships. There's another ship that will be announced in a couple weeks which will be coming from Europe so we're really excited."

Praill said they've already sold over 2,000 tickets to the upcoming festival.

She also said sail-away tickets, which allow you to sail on the Empire Sandy ship, will be available before the end of the month.

The Tall Ships Challenge will be in Sarnia August 9 to 11.
