A Sarnia figure skater has more hardware to add to his collection.
Michael Marinaro and his partner, Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, have won the senior pairs competition at the 2019 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, with the free skate held Saturday afternoon in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Marinaro and Moore-Towers scored 131.28 points, good for first place in the free skate. Their grand total was 202.75.
The pair had a much clearer path to the gold medal, after last year's silver and bronze-medal winning pairs either retired or split up since the 2018 Nationals.
Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud came in second in the overall competition with 189.87 points. For the bronze medal, Camille Ruest and Drew Wolfe racked up 166.84 points.
In November, Marinaro and Moore-Towers finished in fourth place at the NHK Trophy Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Hiroshima, Japan.
Earlier in the year, the pair won the bronze at Skate Canada International event, and in the same month, they took home the silver medal at the Finlandia Trophy figure skating competition in Helsinki.
Marinaro and Moore-Towers finished 11th at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and finished sixth at the world championships.
