Bus cam refutes man's claim he was hit

Sarnia police say a video camera helped them investigate a man's allegation that he was hit by a city transit bus this week.

Police responded to the area of Northgate Plaza in the early afternoon Tuesday, January 15.

A man reported he had been struck by the side view mirror of the bus and his cell phone had been run over.

City buses are now equipped with surveillance cameras and police say video showed that man had not been struck.

Police said it's believed the complainant dropped his cell phone after missing the bus and chasing after it, slapping one of the side windows with his hand.

The bus stopped and police allege the man got on board and began yelling at the driver.

As a result of the police investigation, a 29-year-old man is charged with public mischief and causing a disturbance. He is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on February 19.
