UPDATE: Police say purse snatching never happened

Sarnia police say an attempted purse theft at a local grocery store parking lot never happened.

In a Facebook post, a woman said she was sitting in her vehicle when she was approached by a man asking if she was a certain person.

The post also said a second male attempted to open the passenger door to take the woman’s purse. At that moment, she sounded the car horn and the men took off in what’s described as a white Toyota Corolla.

After interviewing the woman, and reviewing surveillance video, police say there was no second man. Police also spoke with the initial man, and say he honestly believed the woman was someone else.

Police say there was no wrongdoing in this matter and believe the woman was startled by the quick interaction with the man.
