Shell plant to experience flaring

The Shell plant in Corunna is expected to experience higher than normal flaring due to maintenance.

Officials Shell Canada Limited told BlackburnNews.com on Thursday that personnel at the Shell Manufacturing Centre are currently working to limit disruptions to normal operations.

"There will be flaring at the Shell Manufacturing Centre in Corunna for some maintenance to one of our units for servicing," said Bryant Bird, an ER advisor with Shell. "In order for this maintenance to occur and due to the high volume of gas going into the unit we will need to flare for 24-36 hours with limited potential for noise as we are taking measures to limit the impacts to our neighbours.

Shell officials said the flaring will be controlled, and all safety precautions and standard protocols will also be followed.
